We keep books for our clients in the Portland metro area and across Washington — reconciled accounts, financial statements you can actually read, and asset tracking that holds up at tax time. It is offered alongside tax work rather than sold on its own.
This is worth saying plainly, because most firms say the opposite. We keep books for people whose tax work we already handle. It is not a separate product we are trying to sell you, and we do not take bookkeeping-only engagements.
The reason is not policy for its own sake. When the same person prepares the books and the return, the books get kept in a way that makes the return easier, the planning conversations are grounded in real numbers, and nothing has to be reconstructed in March.
If you already have a bookkeeper you like, keep them. That is a genuinely good position to be in, and we will work with whatever they produce.
We do not perform book audits or issue audit certifications. That is a different thing from a tax audit, and it requires a CPA licence, which we do not hold. If someone asks you for audited financial statements, we will tell you so rather than take the work on.
Often, no. We scope this to what a business actually needs rather than to what is easiest to bill, and the answer changes with size.
If you genuinely do not have the time, we will take it on at any size. We will not push you into it.
We offer discounted QuickBooks Online subscriptions for our clients. Ask about it when we set your books up.
QuickBooks Online is our default and our preference — shared access means we can look at the same screen you are looking at, it integrates with payroll, and it is affordable. We will set it up for you.
We also work in QuickBooks Desktop, and in practice we will work in whatever you already have. Moving platforms is a decision with a cost, and it should be made on purpose, not because your accountant prefers a different menu.
Ongoing bookkeeping is a flat monthly fee, quoted after we have looked at the actual books rather than before. The flat number is built from an hourly basis of around $125 an hour against the real volume of the work, so you are not paying for a tier you do not use.
Catch-up and cleanup work is billed hourly, because nobody can quote a flat fee on a mess they have not seen yet. We will give you an estimate and tell you if it changes.
More on how we quote is on our fees page.
Heavier than the ones that follow, and worth knowing in advance. There are questions, there is catch-up on whatever period is open, there is the transition itself, and there is setting up bank feeds so transactions arrive automatically. That last part is deliberate: the more that flows in on its own, the less there is for you to do every month.
After that it settles into a rhythm — statements arrive, questions are few, and the year-end conversation starts from numbers that are already right.
Record-keeping does. We need you to tell us about major purchases, answer the occasional clarifying question, and keep your records. We can automate a great deal of the entry, but we cannot know that the truck you bought in June was a truck unless you say so.
We offer discounted QuickBooks Online subscriptions for our clients — held through the firm’s accountant account, set up by us and connected to your books. There is no percentage on this site because Intuit changes its pricing; ask and we will tell you the current figure. About QuickBooks with us →
